Contrary to popular belief (and classic comic book lore), our parent star is not yellow, it is pure white. If light from the Sun were colored, anything under natural sunlight would appear tinted. Snow, for example, would always appear distinctly yellow. The misconception may arise from the fact that it is only possible to look at the Sun while it is low on the horizon, tinted by the haze of Earth’s atmosphere.
In 1912 and again in 1914-15, items were excavated from Machu Picchu, above, and taken to Yale University to study. The items were supposed to be returned 18 months later but Yale, citing a perceived inability of Peru to keep the items in good condition, retained the artifacts. In November 2010, Yale agreed in principle to return the artifacts to Peru.
